Egg – cellent Recipes

Egg recipes, British lion eggs, how to boil an egg

You may have read my post way back in February all about my plans for lent. I basically wanted to try maintaining a vegan diet for 80% of the time, mainly because I wanted an excuse to try out some different foods! I wasn’t sure how easy this would be to do and I will be totally honest in that I only really managed a vegan diet 40-50% of the time. I was on the move a lot during those 40 days and other than being inconvenient at times, it also proved to be an expensive way of eating! Also, one of my favourite things to cook with are eggs. I use them a lot. Not only are they dead cheap (not sure I should use that phrasing?!) and so versatile, there are also a lot of health benefits. Obviously though, they aren’t vegan! So I found it quite difficult to stop cooking with eggs.

Days Out in Yorkshire: Ilkley Moor

Days out in Yorkshire, Illkley Moor

About a month ago, after I had handed in my dissertation and I was finally free from the ties of university deadlines,  a few friends and I decided to explore some of Yorkshire. I may have lived in Leeds for three years but the majority of that was spend in the uni bubble, which consisted of nothing more than the shops, the clubs and the library. We decided it was time to go a little further afield and see what our uni city had to offer.

The City Girls Bloggers Event Sheffield

The city girls bloggers event sheffield

If you caught my recent post all about our trip down to London for the Ladbrokes Boat Party then you might remember that due to a slight slip up in transport organisation, Gabby and I ended up on a Megabus back to Leeds in the early hours of the morning. This far from ideal, but also extremely funny situation (which you should definitely go and read about if you haven’t already), resulted in a 6am arrival back in the home city…. I climbed into bed as the birds were already halfway through their morning songs yet it was not a case of sleep-sleep-sleep but power-nap-and-get-up-again-at-9. Yep, we were due to be in Sheffield that day for #TheCityGirls Launch.

Ladbrokes Boat Party

ladbrokes boat party on the thames in London

London is hands down my favourite city in the UK. Don’t get me wrong, I love Leeds so much but there is something about being in the capital that makes me feel on top of the world.

A few weeks ago, Gabby from What She Buys and I, boarded the train down south with a bottle of prosecco in one hand and our cameras in the other. We were about to climb aboard the Golden Jubilee for a boat party on the Thames with Ladbrokes!

6 Months of Blogging, celebrating with Baker Days Letterbox cake

Baker Days letterbox cake

I can’t quite believe it but last week marked my blog’s 6 month anniversary. Although What Sass Says was originally born a year ago, I posted only a few times throughout April before leaving it until October. Since then it has pretty much taken over my life. (I’m sure those of you that blog can relate!) 6 months later, I couldn’t be happier with the amazing experiences that I have had and the incredible people I have met, as a result of blogging – someone pass me the tissues!

Just a few days prior to the 6 month mark, a small package arrived through my letter box.  Hearing the thud as it dropped onto the door mat, I was apprehensive about the state of the cake… yes, this little package contained cake! A special delivery from Baker Days couldn’t really have come at a better time. I was worried that it would have completely fallen apart, being dropped from such a height but against all the odds it was in perfect condition. As much as I love cake, I wasn’t really feeling like doing a ‘Joey’ and taking my fork to the carpet…  (That was a ‘Friends’ reference if you didn’t get that…)

Anyway, let me tell you more!  Continue reading 6 Months of Blogging, celebrating with Baker Days Letterbox cake

RefME Referencing App Review

RefME referencing app to help essay writing

The sun is starting to shine, the days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer. It can only mean one thing… Exam and deadline season! As much as I love this time of year, the first few months of beautiful weather have been spent revising and meeting deadlines for as long as I can remember now. The sound of the ice cream van evokes memories of note making and the first time I can step out of the house without my coat on is most probably on a trip to the library… *sigh.* I can’t quite believe that it is that time of year again. I swear last time I looked it was Christmas?!

Easter Sunday

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Nothing beats waking up on Christmas morning and seeing that Santa has been… but one thing that does come close is waking up on Easter morning to see if the Easter bunny paid a visit. Every year without fail,  the inner child in me can’t wait to find out what the rabbit has brought with him this year. (Unfortunately we don’t leave him a bunch of carrots… we really do spoil Santa with his gin and mince pie). Continue reading Easter Sunday

Home Sweet Home

I absolutely love being a student in Leeds. It is such an incredible city, so lively and full of things to do. At heart though, I am a country girl. I grew up living in a little village full of sheep and fields so naturally, returning here on the train always evokes fond memories of home and family life

Ladbrokes Cheltenham Race Night

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was recently catching up on some of my favourite blogs and I came across the following sentence by Dei: ‘Who says your internet friends can’t be real friends?! It’s definitely not true :)’ I love this so much. It completely sums up one of my favourite things about blogging – you can make some amazing friends through it and I certainly have!

So when Ladbrokes invited me to their Cheltenham Race night along with some of my really close blogging friends, I was so excited, mainly at the prospect of seeing them all again! The event was held at Revolution in Manchester and it proved the such a beautiful venue.
